.UK domain name Launch

Are you one of the 3.2 million people who have rights to a .uk domain?

On June 10, 2014 .UK domain names became available as a second level domain.

The .uk is a shorter, snappier and smarter alternative to a .co.uk domain. It shows your visitors that you are located in the UK and as it's shorter it's easier to write and easier to remember than a .co.uk.

This new extension also brings us in line with other large country-code registries such as .fr for France and .de for Germany, joining the rest of the world.

The .uk is set to become the new standard for UK based websites so make sure you grab yours now.

.uk registration is perfect for anyone based in the UK who wants to expand their current domain portfolio and attract more customers. With shorter more memorable names and the ability to show in an instant your site is UK based, this new extension keeps web users and businesses ahead of the curve.

But rest assured, your other domains will continue to function as normal, and the .uk simply gives you another option for you to choose in the UK namespace.

Unsure why you should buy a .uk domain? Not only is Its best business practice is to register both the .co.uk and the .uk domains, but by owning the rights to both versions of your domain, it will prevent others from cyber squatting on your domain associated with your company name.

Websites are easily spoofed. We have had one clients site copied twice. People will often recreate a website on a similar domain in an attempt to scam your website traffic.

What you need to know as a domain name owner

If you own a .co.uk, .org.uk, .me.uk, .net.uk, .plc.uk, or ltd.uk domain, the matching .uk domain may have been reserved for you until 25 June 2019.

If you owned your domain before 10 June 2014

Where a .co.uk domain was registered before on 10 June 2014 the co.uk domain holder will have rights to the .uk equivalent, domain became and become automatically reserved up until June 25, 2019 as long as your domain remains registered.

If you didn't owned your domain or purchased after 10 June 2014
If your existing domain name was registered after 10 June 2014 you do not qualify and therefore your .uk domain WILL NOT be automatically reserved. Therefore allowing anyone to buy your chosen domain.

You can check whether you have the rights to the new .uk by using the rights lookup tool.

If you decide not to register the new .uk equivalent domain before June 25, 2019 it will then become available for someone else to register, but your existing domain will of course still be yours as long as it remains registered to you.

This could mean if you own yourwebsite.co.uk, your equivalent .uk domain, so yourwebsite.uk, may have been reserved. After 1 July 2019 any reserved .uk domains that have not been registered will be released into the public domain. This means they can be registered by anyone.

Days left until June 25, 2019
